If anyone is looking for a ride on Sunday morning the Saint Paul Classic is happening. It starts somewhere around St Thomas University I think, there is a 30 and 15 mile route. I think I will be sportin' my MORC gear, riding a Lemond Arrivvee (yellow). Feel free to say hi if you see me. I'm not a true roadie so I still like to be friendly when I'm riding.:)
And there is same day registration.
I have heard there is a lot of good food on this ride and it is not too serious.

It says on the site that you can register at the race. I think on line registration is closed. Here is the site URL: http://www.spnec.org/bike_classic/

Hey thanks for the update. They did extend registration. The web site last weekend didn't say same day registration as it does now.

Damn, I wanted to do this ride. It goes by my house and I think it's free to me because of that. I have to go to this stupid a$$ "Towards Zero Deaths" conference in St. Cloud. Sounds exciting doesn't it? No not really. Have fun and post on the forums how things go.
Wish I could be participating.

Wish I could be participating. The ride was really good. There is a huge mix of people, from those who look like they have never been a bike to the "racers". Someone, I think it may have been Grizzly Adams, said "Yeah MORC" as they passed me. They had on BCR jerseys so it must have been him. I had my MORC socks and jersey on.
In order to balance things, we went to Calhoun Grill for a nice greazy breakfast and then I spend the rest of the afternoon tracking my fantasy football team while imbibing adult beverages.

ha HA!! It was you. I wasn't sure though. It was a good day. The weather was awesome. I was riding with Theron from BCR and my parents, who came down from Duluth for some nice weather. They were just behind us on their tandem.
At first I had mixed feelings about the ride. All these people just riding everywhere and not paying attention. I don't think I've ever said "On your left" as many times in my life as I did this weekend. But after about 5 minutes I came to realize that for lots of these cyclists, this is the longest ride they'll ever do. But they're doing it - they're riding, talking with friends, enjoying the scenery and enjoying our sport. Then I felt good. I felt proud to be apart of something like this. A sport where seasoned racers can "rub elbows" (sometimes literally) with people riding their $45 bikes.
Later in the ride, we hooked up with another tandem (we left my parents) and we were movin'! This couple was haulin. Plus, we got to take a break from "On your left", as they got to take care of that for us.
It was a really good ride. The food was awesome. The music was great. I even saw some people dancing - in their cycling shoes - at one of the stops. The route this year was much better than the last time I did it - about 4 years ago.
Thanks to everyone who put it together and who worked the food stops. Thank you to the officers and volunteers at the intersections directing traffic. Also, thanks to the home owners clapping and cheering us on from your front yard.

Yeah we were lollygagging at that time. I had some people on a tandem signal that he wanted to pass when they were about 1 foot off of my rear wheel. Then they got pissed when I didn't get over fast enough. Oh well. I don't think that was you though.;)
We eventually picked up the pace. I won the sprint at the end (amongst the group I went with).
Did you see Machinery Hill was playing at the second rest stop? They're a really good local band that I like a lot.

It shouldn't have been them - he's been riding for so many years now - he knows better than to make a call that close. But if it was....!!!! Grrrrr..
Machinery Hill - was that the stop at the park? I saw some guy playing his "necktie", washerboard style.
Winning sprints is awesome!! I also won a sprint with our group (he pulled out of his pedal - but a win is a win!!). Theron LOVES to sprint. Anytime anything looked like it was racing him, he took off. lol

When were you guys out there. I was going to introduce myself, but I didn't see anyone, I was looking for the MORC jersey, but didn't see it.

I think we were on the road around 8:15ish??
I had my Bent Crank Racing jersey on. I only saw one MORC jersey - no - make that two.

That sucks, I was on the road then closer to the end of my first lap, but yeah, I wanted to meet some of you guys, so I can maybe help with some trail stuff, or group rides.
