This is a thread to discuss and bring attention to the video contest that we'll be having at the MORC Annual Party/Meeting in October.

We should talk about some guidelines... length of video, content, voting etc.

When we were at KC a few years ago they had a contest like this... totally wasted our time with really long videos of nothing but nonsense. Then again a small amount of humor is good.

Things I'll watch for if I were judging:

- Music used in the video (and at what volume - I like to hear the riders too)
- Clarity
- Stunts / Technical
- Lack of seeing riders going backwards on the trail to get footage (I give those an auto thumbs down hehe)
- Flow (kind of goes with the last one)
- Length - probably no longer than the average music video if not shorter.
- Uniqueness... cool things like helmet footage, night footage (?), different POV etc.
- Opening and closing graphics
- Helmets
- MORC jerseys ;)
.... ?

I believe the ultimate decision on stuff like how long, where and how to submit, who will judge etc. will be with Eric Lealos since he is kinda running the show.

It has to be PG rated!

The whole point is to have some fun. I am working with a title sponsor to get some outstanding awards. With any luck we can make this an annual event everyone looks forward to.

Think "Springfield Film Festival" and have some fun.

I have heard from two official entries, and have heard of 3 or 4 others - unofficially. Come folks, this will be cool.

Can't wait till my video camera gets here. I personally was kinda hoping to get like ten minutes or so because that allows you to be more creative than just small little clips of biking put together. I'm not so concerned about winning but more just having fun, but prizes always does make the effort more enjoyable :D

but come on PG?.....there goes the strip club scene. Just Kidding!

What format are you guys going to be submitting your videos in? I would really like to be able to burn a DVD but I still haven't gotten around to getting my computer fixed so my burner is a no go right now.

I really dislike having to put it out on VHS and not sure about trying to hook up my camcorder to whatever system we will be watching the movies on.

Anyone have a computer with a DVD burner and firewire that wants to burn my movie Saturday morning? :D

I think my official production name for my video will be Two Day Productions because it was shot in a day and I'm gonna do the editing tonight. Time to stock up on on Red Bull!

I am burning mine to DVD as an uncompressed AVI file.

You could also do it as a burned/playable DVD but you loose a little quality.

I am not sure whose Laptop we are going to use for playing, but they might have a Firewire port that would alow for a pass through play.

Not sure.

Do you have a working cd burner?

Span it across a couple of cd's and we might be able to extract it to the laptop harddrive.

Just kinda throwing things out right now.

I have a sony Vaio laptop, which I think will have the port you need for your camera. We can capture the video from that and put it on my hard drive for screening.

Bring your cables!

I'll bring my firewire cable and power source etc. Do you want me to bring my projection screen? It is 8'x6' but is not freestanding. You would have to hang it from hooks of some sort. Not sure where we are going to be watching the videos but if it is open ceiling with rafters its easy enough. Figured I'd throw that out there.

Scott,

Thanks for the screen offer, but I have already "borrowed" one from work.

Same size screen but also not freestanding. We will just hang it from the latic work area in the chalet like last year.

Vid problems eh??? Well, I'll throw my crap top, external, and all my cables in, just in case too...I have some good editing software right now so maybe I can be of some help if it is needed. Anywhoo I burned mine to DVD and noticed very little or no loss of quality. Can't wait to see what other people are filmin and how they edit, should be fun!!! See ya all tomorrow!

PS: if you are capturing it someone better bring a External Hard Drive... it takes up a ton of space!!!

Editing....hah that's a good one. We were supposed to do that? I was planning to edit mine using Adobe Premeire but with a crapped out computer I turned to the simplicity of my roommates Mac G4 using iMovie. Problem is I shot the whole video in 16x9 format and it only works with 4x3 for all transitions and what not. So it looks like I might be going transitionless.

Oh well should still be a riot.

bring the noise!

Make sure you get enough star wipes in there.

By the way, I picked up the awards today...Penn Cycle did such an amazing job, I just might ask them again next year!

Those who had the chance but opted not to submit will be so
freakin' jealous.

Who knows if you've thought this far ahead but...

It would be great to compile the films from this year into a professional DVD for MORC members to get/purchase/burn/watch/whatever. If no one's stepped up for this, I'd like to volunteer.

My previous job (and one of the ways I find alot of freelance work) was as an Interactive Designer building DVDs at Token Media. Freelance, I've done alot of projects including a DVD for Atmosphere last spring.

Depending on what anyone was considering a final product, I could output the project to a handful of DVD-Rs to pass around and let people burn their own copies (this would be the cheapest route = free+the cost of DVD-Rs) or I could oversee the production of a limited run of profesional duplicates (including the printed artwork and packaging, maybe this would run in the area of $4-$7 per disc depending on the size of the run).

Let me know if it's anything anyone has interest in, feel free to email me at agruhn{at}capella.edu (agruhn{at}@capella.edu)

Having a MORC DVD would be pretty rad and would bring the group together. Maybe it could be an additional fundraiser or at least a neat freebie for new members. Thoughts?

hehehe,

I did some shooting in 16X9 also just to see how it would transision to a Anamorphic burn onto my HDTV. Looks cool, and Premiere can do all the transitions no problem, but all the helmet cam stuff is 4X3. SOOOOO

my movie is all in 4X3 until I find a way to upgrade to a very very small HDTV DVcam and helmet mount system.

I just burned my Movie to DVD as a AVI file so I should have no problems with the playing.
