I saw a mechanic guy out at Afton this weekend, he was not associated with a shop, and he said he had a bunch of them. Does anyone know who this guy is and how to get ahold of him? He had an EZ UP style tent and was not far from the main chalet.

If not, anyone know where I can get one of these for my frame? I checked http://www.derailleurhanger.com/ and they didn't have one for my frame. I also need one ASAP so I can ride my XC bike.

Penn Cycles was the biggest Schwinn dealer around the midwest/country before the brand died, they gots to have one laying about somewhere in one of there locations.

Try Gateway Cycle, ask for Troy or Hunter. They might have one laying around. Gateway cycle is in North St. Paul.

Ya sure that Schwinn #1 won't fit? I got one for my '95 (I still can't remember the model name - it's just a jumble of letters, numbers & punctuation - something like s9[five.6]) which isn't listed, and it still fit. Check out http://wheelsmfg.com/newproducts.php?cat=newprod&prod=derhanger - They have a PDF file you can download with actual size line drawings of the hangers so you can just match it up. If you find the right one, Penn Cycle can order them for you. I got mine in 3 days...

Good luck!

Dude, your '98 Moab is an aluminum frame? My '98 Moab #1 is a steel frame...I didn't know they made aluminum frames in the moab that year...hope you find one! I think you had a choice. They had Moab Aluminum and Moab Chromoly. I wish I had a Chromoly one, but I got this bike in '99 as a '98 closeout and they didn't have a Chromoly one left. It's a Moab 1 Aluminum, I don't think the Moab 1 Chromoly frames had replaceable hangers.

Also, if anyone has a 2001 or newer Kona Chromoly frame they don't want anymore, in about a 16" or 17", let me know. Even if it's a Fire Mountain, I don't care, they are still double butted chromoly frames and are pretty nice. I might go that route instead.

Go that route... Wheelworld has a bunch of Kona frames on sale:

They have a Stuff frame for 189.99!!!! I'm kinda tempted at that price! They have a few other good frame deals too.

Shad, I picked up a derailer hanger at Penn Cycles on Lake and Lyndale for a Schwinn Moab a few weeks ago. I would bring the part in and ask them to look for a match. That's what I did and they found one.

Hey, I have a 2001 Specialized S-Works hardtail I would consider selling. It's always nice to find a good home for an under-used bike. Let me know and I'll let you try it out for a couple of days. But if you break it...:D you gotta fix it!

Everything there is freeride or downhill. I am looking for an XC frame.....I already have a P.2 to freeride on.

I should see what the weight and demensions are on a Stuff frame.....I assume it's gonna be fairly heavy. I like the DS-1 frame, but again....it might be kind of heavy.

Way the heck over there? They don't carry Schwinn, so I don't think they will have a hanger. Seems like this hanger is very specific to my frame. I think I am going to go the new frame route. Maybe an Azonic DS-1. I read some stuff on it and I guess it's pretty light weight. Also, I will probably like the geometry. I would love to have a lightweight version of my P.2 so I can ride XC with it, but have the geometry I like. If I put light weight wheels, cranks and, other parts, it should be pretty good for XC racing.

Shad, Gateway Cycle used to deal in Schwinn Bikes only a few years back. Don't just look in the yellow pages to see who is a current Schwinn Dealer. I'm only telling you this because I know the shop and all the people that work there. Just trying to help ya out. Can't thank you enough for the time!

Gene at One on One Bicycle Studios is getting me an On-One chromoly frame to solve my frame issues. What sold me on this frame? The geometry did!!

Check this out!

16" frame has:

Effective TT = 23.2 inches
Head Angle = 71 degrees
Seat Angle = 73 degrees
BB Height = 11.9

Now is that some aggresive geometry for a 16" XC frame......why yes it is!

Once I get it built and ride it, I will tell you more.

A 16" frame with a top tube over 23 inches... COOL! :)

Long top tube with a shorter stem??

You gonna slacken the head angle (and raise the BB) with a longer fork, or run a 80-100mm???

berrywise

That should make for a fun and solid ride. The Planet X Jackflash (same company) bike I owned for a year had similar geometry with the long top tube.

I personally would be worried about hitting my big ring on every log and rock on a gravel road. But I like it other than that!

I currently have my eye on one of these:

We'll see how it goes.

You gonna slacken the head angle (and raise the BB) with a longer fork, or run a 80-100mm??? This is gonna be an XC ride, so I will run my existing 80mm Judy XC. It's a '98 model fork, back when Judy was high end, and has an aluminum steerer and such. Phillip gave me some good springs and I really like the fork now, so I will keep it till I kill it.......I want the 71 degrees. My freestyle bike has 74.5 degree head angle, so mountain bikes always feel so darn slow handling for me.

Have you seen my stem on my Schwinn?? It's as short as you can get. I don't know the size, but it must be like 20 mm or 30 mm.

Nope... we've never met. The last bike I purchased has a short stem and a slack head angle. It took some getting used to, but I like it - especially going downhill (plus the bike weighs about 40 lbs.).

I just picked up a cheap Al frame with a 71 degree HA (based on a 100mm fork), and I'm trying to decide how to set it up. Lookin' for a bike to mess around on, maybe light jumping/urban, but also reasonably light to ride on trails. Thinkin' an SS with the fattest tires the frame will fit (should fit 2.3-2.5 inchers), a nice short stem and platforms. I had thought of a longer fork since it seems most urban/trail bikes (like the P.2) have slack head angles. Any opinions?

I find the slack head angle okay for Urban Assult (Street Riding in my BMX terms), but for certain things I don't like it. If I want to do any front wheel tricks, like stalls or nose manuals, the slack angle makes those tough, but so does the front suspension. A slack head angle is good for flat out high speed downhill, but I think a quicker head angle would be better for dual slalom. So I am mixed on the head angle.

When I get my On-One with a 71 degree head angle (80mm fork), I think I am going to be very happy riding singletrack.......:)

Advantages and disadvantages either way.

Here it is. Built up and ready to ride. I only got to ride it in the parking lot because of all the rain. The length is excellent and the steering is nice a quick. I noticed the BB Height is pretty low, so I will have to keep that in mind when going over logs and rocks. If it's too much of an issue, I will have to get a longer travel fork....like 100mm or so. I like this fork a lot, so I hope it's not an issue.

That was quick!

Yeah, one of the reasons I'm leaning toward a longer fork is to raise the BB height.

But I have a question...

Why did you go with canti's instead of Mechanical or Hydro Disc Brakes and Wheels?

Doesn't your P have discs on it?

Cost?

Very cool looking ride - Looks like some nice tube work at the top of the seat stays.

Yeah, yeah, they are still a rim brake...

And I agree with you, On-One makes some beautiful frames that I have heard very little bad about.

They are making a Disc ready Ti Cross frame now also that has me interested.

That will be my winter project. For now, I just switched over all my parts from my Schwinn frame. I want to get the Avid Sevens which are mechanical disk brakes with bearings in them. They should work well with my Avid Speed Dial levers I currently have. I love that little dial on my lever. I am not quite sure what I am going to get for wheels yet. I want some good lightweight XC ones, but I can't spend $600.00 plus on them. I also don't want to support Shimano's "make it only Shimano campatible" concept. I would like to run Avid or Hayes disks on them if needed.

All I have to say is......WOW!

I am so glad I waited to find the right frame for me. Being 5' 7" tall (5' 6" - 5' 10" recomended for this frame) I like it a lot. It's hard to find a 16" frame that has this long of a front end. It has tons of control in the corners and is super stable over rough sections. The downhill part after the big rock garden in the XX-Loop is a breeze now. Full speed, even threw in some pedeling for more speed, and full control.

The longer frames makes up for the steeper head angle. You would think a steep head angle would make it squirly, but it doesn't. The short stem and 71 degree angle felt great. This bike does everything nicely. I jumped the table nice and clean and could even throw in some style.

For me, it's perfect. The chromoly soaks up the roughness quite well too. My back didn't get sore, which it did on my Schwinn aluminum frame. I don't think I will ever ride an alumnimun XC frame again.

The BB is lower than normal, but I had no issues with it. I just have to make sure I hop some of the bigger logs and rocks (which I usually do anyway). I also need to be sure not to pedal in some turns and watch the pedals in some rocky sections. A 100mm fork would solve any of these issues, but because I am a technical rider, I can ride it without any pedal or sprocket issues. The lower BB does gives the bike better control because it lowers your overall center of gravity.

This frame is perfect for a BMX style rider like myself. Long and low with quick steering. I love it...best frame I have ever ridin'.

Does On-One pay me for this?
