Anyone ever thought about getting a MORC IRC chat channel going?

Thats a good idea, dun know if id use it much tho, PM's or other messanger services work great for me too, most of em have a chat option.
Adam, its kinda like a chatroom of sorts, you setup a room with a name and a password...so say you want to talk in it, youd go to the "MORC" room and enter password "MORC" and youd pop up in it.
I think someone has to host it though or do they stay online? Cant recall since the last time i used one, they work great for online meetings if you can get people tp talk one at a time and shut the hell up.

Someone here has got to have admin privs on one IRC network or another. I just created a room called "morc" on irc.zirc.org just to test it out but I am not an admin there. "Hosting" is the wrong word but I do think there's got to be a computer with IRC signed on all the time to keep the room open. I am sure my file/web server could do that (if I knew how to do it).
I don't know a whole lot about admin'ing IRC. I just chat occaisionally.

Nice - another thing to keep me occupied while I'm at work!

Hehe. now go get mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/)and connect to irc.zirc.org.
then, when you're connected, type:
/join #morc
I'm in there. just me.

The forum software has a plugin that can do online chat if anyone is interested in this in the future... would at least keep it all in one place.

So would you have to register for the forums to use it? I assume it'd run in a browser window as well....

I'm almost there - it says something about an erroneous nickname.....

I think you gotta enter your own (unique) nickname. sometimes nicks are registered (and need a password to sign on as them)

Are you still there? Now it says that the session is closed.

Grrr - zirc.org is blocked from work - all IRC is in fact.... now to setup an IRC tunnel through my home machine on an obscure port and use that to connect up... ooh the lag! Man, it's been years since I've used IRC.

Yup, it works in a browser so no IRC client needed. I think it can use your forum name or you can enter your own... it actually used to be on the old forums but nobody ever used it.

I personally would think it'd be better/more controlled if you had to register for the forums before you could use it, and you had to use your forums name.

But for now, stop by #morc on irc.zirc.org....
