I bought a 04 Trek 8000 with Mavic x223 wheelsets with deore hubs and Avid Mech. Disc brakes. just wondering if it's a good combo.
I bought the bike brand new for 699.00, but they had switched the wheels with some cheap ones. They said they would give me the x223's for Free. I had to buy the Disc brakes for 200.00 buck installed .I was just wondering if the wheels are better then the Bontrager Select disc compatible wheels? http://forums.mountainbike.com/images/emoticons/confused.gif

Welp, you really cant beat a mavic/shimano wheelset. But then again i dislike Bontrager components with a passion, cept the old frames, ahhh they make such nice single speeds! Anywhoooo you can pick up that wheelset for bout $170 or so if my shop memory recalls correctly. Did you get to keep the "v" brakes? I sure hope so, otherwise you should go get them bad boys, unless there was some lame trade in price. Them Bontragers go for around $240. Avid mechanic discs go for roughly off the top of my head $190, but install should have been free?!?!

So for $899 and tax you got a bike, mavic 223's and disc brakes, thats not that bad of a deal. If you break it down and they resell the wheels for retail they are still up $70 on the whole deal. But ya got what ya wanted?!?! With little or no hassle, and if you break a spoke its easier to fix (well the bontragers are not hard either). I would not loose sleep over it, GO RIDE!!!

...from them. $200 is steep is that is net of a supposed trade-in of the Vs for the Avid Mechs.

Turn around and sell the Vs on eBay.

thanksI found it at Scheel's in Mankato. When I called to check on the price I couldn't believe it was a 2004 . :crazy2: I think it was the last one though, you could try St.Clouds Scheels ? Good Luck
