While I'm ranting (see "Help!")... It would be swell if people would proofread their posts. Most people can't spell for beans (though I will offer that "definitely" does NOT have an "a"), but all of the typos make it difficult to understand a post. SDhe dais their not they're??
It only takes a second.

Even though some people make typos and such, I have never really had an issue with understanding what people post. I proof read mine, but I am sure I make spelling errors. I don't think it matters that much.

Post on and enjoy the forums!!

I'm not freaking about this. Just a simple request. The world will still revolve if it doesn't "pahhen." Everyone spells like poop, no prob. But as a common courtesy...IT'S JUST LIKE THE PERSON WHO LEAVES THE CAPS LOCK ON. You can still read it, but it's a bit annoying. Insert one of those smiley, winky, happy-go-lucky smiley face right....here!
I love you all, especially the non-proofreaders.

I'll back you up 100%, Ruston!

As I have my bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and English, I feel it's my sworn duty to snobbishly correct everyone's piss-poor grammar whenever I get a chance. Bonus points will be awarded to me whenever I'm particularly smug about it, too.

Now, a quick crash course:

* They're going to the party.

* The party is over there on the other side of town.

* The party is at their house.

* The party shouldn't have an adverse effect on the property value of the house.

* The party will not affect the property value of the house.

And, finally, the most simple, yet most mis-understood rule of all:

Its - possessive form of "it"

It's - conjunction for "it is"

There are no exceptions to this rule! It's so easy to use its proper form! (see?)

Carry on.

Hey, if you break your brake cable your brakes won't work.

Also, if you're going riding don't forget your helmet.

If I'm wrong, too bad. I'm tired of seeing break used where brake belongs. :p ;)
I was riding at brake neck speeds yesterday a Leb. Every time I applied the Breaks I would slide out and cause ripples in the dirt.

Its much better when I know what I am writing. I am glad you MORCer's went out of you're way to teach me these valuable lessons.

Sorry to all of you for wasting so much time on such an insignificant subject!!

Nigel, my point was not about spelling. I think I made that clear. It was about people typing one word while thinking another, hitting 3 letters at once with ther banana-fingers, transposing words/letters.

I've found myself spacing off in an email and writing "there" for "their." But it takes just a few seconds to clean those things up. I wasn't losing any sleep. It didn't raise my BP. I didn't write in all caps and add a bunch of those angry dancing bananas...:banana::banana:

I have no beef with those that can't spell and those who know not grammar from grandma. I luvs youse all the sames. If you don't know, then you don't know.

I just thought it would be an act of common courtesy to make posts a little more legible. This isn't a chatroom for 13 year olds.

Oh yeah I forgot you have to subscribe to that thing, doesn't really matter anyway, I was just giving you crap rusto.

People's grammar and spelling on the forums just doesn't matter much to me, it's just part of the fun. We're not writing international treaties after all, to each their own.

I'm a terrible speller and writer. It's hard to tell I have a college education. Although, they are science degrees, so maybe that's why I can't spell. I had to avoid English and Mass Com classes! I'll try better in the future on my posts, but I think I've become too dependent on spell check to know how to spell anymore. Damn advancements in technology! It's all ruining me! I used to be a great speller in grade school! Really, I was!

:crazy:Without a doubt the best comment I have read on this list for quite a while! :crazy2:

I minored in English in college, and I am a published writer. I spell well, and know how to use a dictionary (or ask my wife) when I am not sure about a word. I do wish John would put a spell check on this forum. (Other forums have it!) But, the other quote I liked was "You gotta be kidding. This isn't school or work. This is mountain biking!"

Lighten up!

-Tony While we're on the subject of pet peeves and so forth: I can't stand it when a thread is so off-topic that it no longer pertains to the original thread title.

Why does it seem that every thread about biking turns political, ever political thread turns into SUV bashing, and every SUV bashing thread somehow ends up involving mountain biking?

Just look at what a mess this thread has become. And here I am writing an entire post that in NO WAY pertains to the original thread topic! What is this forum coming to?!
