Does anyone know of any decent trails in the grandforks red river valley area? I will be going up to school there shortly and haven't found anything online that talks about anything in that area. I know that it is pretty flat up there so I guess I wouldn't expect much, so as of right now I don't plan on bringing my bike. Any replies would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

As a former native of Eastern ND, I will tell you that if you're looking for hills, you're going to have to drive a ways unless you head up north near Pembina (excellent snowmobiling up that way :)) or west to the Badlands. I was just in Fargo this past weekend and did some biking along the Red River. No MTB trails, but it was a very nice ride, nonetheless. I'd still bring my bike if I were you.

Check out Turtle River. I hear they have some trails there, even had the IMBA crew out there once helping them. I think some might just be doubletrack, but I do believe they have singletrack too.
It should be just west of the air base.

I went to school 70 miles south at Moorhead State. The MTB pickings in-town are mighty slim, but the MTB culture is relatively strong still. Go figure.
Maybe you should work on setting up a MORC chapter up there and get people involved in building something? True, the bottom of what used to be Lake Agassie (sp?) is flat as a pancake, but you don't necessarily need hills to have great mountain biking (ahem: River Bottoms).
The one benefit you do have, of course, is being only 6 hours from the Maah Daah Hey  . Talk about contrasts!

I don't know trails there but my sister and her fiance (a good friend of mine) live in Grand Forks. My bud could hook you up with knowledge of the area trails -- he's lived there his entire life so he should know if there are trails. PM me if you want his phone number.
What ever you do, don't leave your bike down here. It will be lonely. Winter riding on hardpacked know is a blast. You will have plenty of snow up there!
