Cruised around searching for a few of the local trails around my house today... They're all cross country skiing trails, I visited Movil Maze, Three Island, and Buena Vista.
Movil Maze - By far the best set of trails found today... Some ATV use is noticeable, but definately helps with the overgrowth of grass and ferns. Nice trails, easy to navigate maps at most of the trail heads, soggy in some spots which lead to two tumbles over the handlebars, but felt good to find a "spot."
Three Island - Don't waste your time... Random blowdowns that have been there for way too long, foilage above mid thigh height made for tough navigation and even harder traversing, bring bug dope!... Granted, it is mountain biking, but it tends to take some of the fun out of it.
Buena Vista - I was stoked about this one, huge rolling hills and trails placed around Bemidji's ski area... However... we get about two miles back into the trail only to find that the XC Trail was gated shut... So, I quick jot to the top of the hill for a downhill session and we headed to Movil (Above). Looks to be an interesting trail, and I plan on talking to the owners about opening it up for mountain biking. They tend to have a bad ATV problem in that area so I doubt it, but it doesn't hurt.
All in all, it was a good day, nice weather, and not too many bugs. Found some trails, rode some trails, and now have to do some adjustments... So it was a good day! :-)
