I'm looking for some reccomendations on a cool trip that would combine biking for a part of it. I'm looking for some really fun technical stuff, not really long rides, but rides that challenge me to stay on my bike. I want to take about 1 week off. Another part of the trip I would like to canoe a couple of days down a cool river.
Does anyone know of some places that would be able to combine such an adventure with out driving too long in between the biking portion of the tirp and the canoing portion?
I have a bike but not a canoe.
I live in Wisconsin, but my friend lives in Uptown.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Check ot Marquette, MI. I know the trails up there are short and technical and I would guess there is some good canoeing.

If you want a good area for canoe and biking in the same trip check out Eagle River, Wi. There are suppose to be some good trails around the area. I think the Deerskin river there is still a good river to canoe.

The CAMBA trails up by Hayward and Cable in NW Wisconsin are not far from some good paddles. The Namekagon river is right in the area, the Flambeau river is less than an hour to the SE, and the Brule river is about an hour to the North.
Probably the best paddle nearby is the North fork of the Flambeau river. There is a put-in point right along Hwy 70 about 5 miles west of Fifield. It is an easy 4-hour paddle west to Oxbo, where you cross Hwy 70 again. You can continue for much longer going south towards Ladysmith, and eventually (past County W?) you will encounter some real rapids.
The South fork of the Flambeau is a possibility too, but I don't know much about it. The Namekagon river is pretty gentle and meandering in the area of Cable/Hayward, but I think it gets more interesting if you put in down by Trego or Spooner. Finally, there is the Brule, which is not a laid back experience, rather an exhilirating rapids run.

I've canoed the Namekagon and the Flambeau and both were really good. There are campsites along the Flambeau that are/were on a first come basis. We spent 3 days on the river, mostly floating and fishing. Good times! And, of course, the riding around Cable is great.
Here is a site that gives an overview of the rivers in WI

And here is a good map of the Flambeau state park
