Anybody have any information about this race? I heard it will be taking place at Spirit Mountain? Sounds like fun to me!

The 12 Hours of Green is a brand new event at Spirit Mtn. The race is on Sat the 12th of July, at Spirit Mtn in Duluth. The Green Man Music Fest is a 24 band gig starting Friday the 11th and finishing Sunday the 13th. Live music to provide the vibe for your tribe! Solo, duos and open classes (3-5 person teams) will compete on the infamous trail network which was the site of the Powder Monkey.
The sweet singletrack, rippin' doubletrack, fast decents and ofcourse some climbing will all be part of the 5-7 mile lap. There will be some trail alterations from the Monkey; we plan on adding another 1-2 miles to it.
So, if you like live bands (i.e. Black Eyed Snakes, Wookiefoot, Big Wu, etc.), a ragin' full-on party atmosphere, and good times, this is your gig. Cost is appx. $90 per person. This covers food, some beer, ALL the music, aid stations, camping, T-shirt, and more.
It will be a great solo and a great singlespeed course.
See you there!

RE: The 12 Hours of Green - There will be a separate price for single race-day interested folks. As I mentioned earlier that $90 will get you in for the full 3 days; an approximate single race day cost will be about $55 and will include access to all of Saturday's stuff including the 12 hr race, all the live music (on 2 separate stages), camping, live 'Green Radio' (bring yer radios!), on-going art of many forms and functions, victuals and libations, and more.
The web site should be up by the end of Feb. (earlier hopefully; www.greenmanfestival.com) and brochures and posters should be out soon as well.
More soon...

Now this sounds like what a endurance Mountain Bike Race should be!!!
At had planned to go to Green Man last year but was unable to do it.
Now that their will be riding involved I will make it a requirement to be there. If not with a team ( Anyone interested?)
Then with the Patrol if they are asked to help.
Keep us all up to date and if your still trying to line up Bands, Look into Soulive, MMW, String Cheese Incident, I could give you a whole list and stack of recording of great festival bands out there.

James and all,
We are hoping to have the new Duluth MTB patrol up and running (okay, riding) before any of the races in the Twin Ports this year.
We'll see what really happens!
Ride safe,
Hans

Just bumping this thread to let some people see it who may not have known about it.
This should be a blast up there this weekend. Duluth is an aswome place, I wish I was there now, but I will have to wait till friday to head up. $60 for a solo race, goes down a nit per person if you do a team it think.($220 for 4 person) plus you get a bunch of swag just for signing up, a raffle, and other great stuff too. Plus great music going on as you race so you wont get Raffi stuck in you head(velonews article). Registration is open until 8pm on friday the 11th, so you have not missed the deadline yet!

If you plan on doing this event, you might want to think twice about bringing spectators with you. From the event's web site I gather that anyone racing gets a free pass to the festival, but if you plan on bringing your significant other, friends or family it looks like each of them will have to cough up $45 each just to be there on Saturday.
Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong but that's what I am gathering from the web site.
For that kind of fee, I say skip that race and come down to the Bluff Riders Charge on Sunday, July 13th at Mount Kato Ski Area in Mankato, MN. Complete info at http://www.mnscs.com.

Official response to correct the 12 Hours of Green support staff misunderstanding:
Yup, we have caused many of you some confusion as to whether your personal/select support staff have to pay as well for the 12 hrs race.
Well, let me say that all support staff get in to support and spectate for FREE!!!
Registered Racers get in to all the funky art and music as well as the race but support must pay $55 to get into the actual music and art festival grounds, for the 3 days. We apologize for the confusion. So, you can spend $20-30 to ride a SE Minn Ski bump in the heat looking at corn for 2+ hours or race for 12 and party for 50 hrs (60 hrs if you want...) on the precambrian ROCK at Spirit. There are some old familiar trail sections and some brand freaking new sections to the 'Monkey course, so don't think it's just another race on the same old stuff.
PS - if you choose to camp, ask a staff person for 'the Deeps' camping area. It's a bit of a hike/ride but boasts the best damn view in all of Spirit! Its immediately adjacent to the course as well!
