repost

I went down and watched the Pro men and women's races on Sunday in downtown Stillwater. I brought my little point and shoot as well as my big camera. Took some video with the point and shoot, and quickly edited it together. You can check it out here.

Best to right click on the link. Choose Save Targe As and then download to your hardrive to watch. I think I'm getting better at compressing the video and keeping the quality decent.

Pretty impressive the speed they carry through the turns.

Cool video. I was going to go and watch the races since they were in my back yard (I live in Stillwater). But ended up at the cabin instead. Glad to see some footage of the race. Thanks for the video, and yes they do carry some speed in the corners. Did they have some trouble up Chillicoot hill after a few laps. That is the place I like to watch the racers at. Thanks again.

That's definately where the most people were situated. I was hoping it would get really narrow and mimmick a Tour stage :) The women's race was pretty much won on that final climb with two racers going neck and neck into it and the winner getting ahead in the last ten yards or so.

The men's race was a little more wide open with the men's winner gaining a good 30 seconds on the pack going into the last lap. The lead guys won't even downshift from their big ring and just stand up and rock up that hill like its nothing.

Some of the lower class riders though definately were struggling at the end and would go down to their easiest gear.

Hey, I am almost famous now! :crazy2:

I made it into your video, sitting on the side of the road with my kids in one of the last clips.

We must have walked right by you! I was there with Josh (and my daughter, Brianna) for both of the pro races. We spent most of the time on that hill. Sorry we didn't see you to say, "hi."

It's great to hear the bikes work up close. Tires gripping the pavement, shifts made at over 25mph. Gives you a whole new appreciation for Dura Ace and Campy Record drive trains. I wish we had a regular pro mountain bike race in the upper midwest. I saw the top guns two years ago in Apline valley ,wis. wow , could they motor.

It made the hair on my neck stand up when I heard the miss shifts under load, while climbing the hill. Then, with the loss of all forward momentum, the rider tips over.

You probably didn't recognize us because we were dressed like civilians, and not bikers.

Back a few years now when I was doing Chequamegon I always got a kick that the first racers in on the 40 mile had faster mph averages than the winners of the little 16-18 mile short and fat race.

And the guys winning the 40 were usually just a little bit over the hill on their mountain biking careers (tillford, bobke etc).

Which also makes me wonder about something else. Why doesn't the Trek Factory team race Chequamegon? I mean they are the big honcho sponser. You'd think that would be a decent advertising campaign for them.

It would be great to see a Trek and Specialized battle up at the Fat Tire. A few factory riders going at it on fuel's and epic's. I think pro mountain biking needs a big boost. I'am not sure if the big money makers are interested in providing the same backing as they give Lance.

I'm pretty rough with it but I've been using Adobe Premeire 6.0 to do all the editing.
