I did some exploring yesterday, on my way home from Warroad. The MnDNR has opened several state forest trails to mountain biking, and is publicizing them in a new State Forest Recreation brochure. The two I checked out were in Land o' Lakes State Forest, 2 miles west of Outing, MN, which is on MN Hwy. 6, north of Garrison. I am still a bit vague on which are the MTB trails in the Moose Lake Section, but I will figure it out in a couple weeks, when I go up there again, but the Washburne Lake Solitude Area has 7 miles of narrow ski trails which are posted as open to mountain biking.

More info to follow my next expditionary trip!

Ride safe,

I've ridden the Washburn stuff a couple of times. It would be great if there were more people riding it, as the trails are good but can get overgrown. Hopefully publicizing it will help a little. There is some great rolling terrain and some nice scenery. The grass can get high in some parts though. Be sure and hit the trails on the south side of the highway as well. You can tie the south trails in with a ride along the big powerline. There's a geocache hidden in the area as well if you're into that. A friend and I skied into it a couple of winters ago. Theres also a nice little campground just down the road.

I'll be heading up that way in a couple of weekends (we have land just south of there) and will try to ride it and give a fresh report as well.
