The weeds are getting pretty high so weather permitting we are going to start the trail trimming process Monday the 14th. From my observations the areas needing the most attention are the west end.
Let's meet at 6PM in the Ferry Bridge parking lot where I will have some swing type weed cutters, loppers, hedge trimmers, snippers and the DR Brush mower. Bring extra loppers and trimming tools just in case - plus of course gloves, long pants, appropriate footwear, eye protection, water, bug dope etc.
Our initial scope of work will be from the parking lot down to the Isaak Walton land and back. If we can get further we will. We may only be able to get the mower to the first flooded area but past that the weeds are less of an issue. If people want to start earlier or we have a lot of folks we may dispatch them to different areas - please contact me about that.
I will put some more details up in this location later this week but wanted to get the notice out.
Thanks in advance for your help.

We are on for 6PM at the Ferry Bridge Parking lot - I'll have the mower and the tools.
The bugs are out in force so be prepared.
I'm reasonable sure that the west side of the trail is not underwater - if you have better information please contact me directly.

Steve,
What time are you going to be down there, I have tools from QBP that need to be dropped off.
I am going to Harmon at 6, so could drop them off on the way if somebody is there ahead of time.

Thanks!
Probably won't arrive the ferry bridge until nearly 6PM - but can take them earlier at my workplace (90th and Lyndale), at QBP, or at my house (France and the river).
Feel free to contact me directly by phone or E-mail.
I think Dennis Porter is also working on this.

Oh, and only need the loppers, nippers, and swing type manual weed cutters.
I'm reasonable sure that the west side of the trail is not underwater
I haven't checked the trail, but the water was suprisingly close to the paved path where it goes under 169. Last week it didn't even seem close.
Looking at the raft picture you posted last week, I would bet all of the steps are underwater now.

Thanks to Brian's expert mower piloting - trail is trimmed from Ferry Bridge 'till we couldn't go any further due to flooding near the Izaak Walton property.
Flooding should continue for the next few days - here is the latest from the Weather Bug: at Savage On The Minnesota River... The Stage Was 700.51 Feet At 8 PM Monday And There Was Minor Flooding Occurring. Flood Stage Is 698.0 Feet. The River Is Forecast To Crest Near 701.3 Feet Thursday Morning. This Would Result In Moderate Flooding. This Crest Compares To A Previous Crest Of 701.6 Feet On May 21 1999.

This week the work will be organized by Dennis Porter (dporter@qbp.com (dporter@qbp.com)) and Shane Prevost (Shane.E.Prevost@supervalu.com (Shane.E.Prevost@supervalu.com)) and will commence at 6PM at the small parking lot at Parkers Picnic Ground in East Bloomington - this is where the picnic table climb is located and the large power lines go overhead. Trimming is being shifted to the east side Bluff Trail as the west is underwater.
To access by road go south on Portland Avenue from Shakopee Road or 494, Portland will turn right onto 104th ST. take the next left (not sure the name) go about one block then left again onto Columbus Road, the parking lot and trail access will be on the right.
Dennis and/or Josh Leonard will have some trimming tools bring what you have handy in addition to the usual (gloves, bug dope, etc).
Thanks!!!

PS, hopefully next week (28th) we can mow again on the west side.

We'll be back to the mowing and trimming Monday the 28th.
Thanks to everyone that came out last Monday to work on the East side.
This time we'll plan to tackle the section West of the raft and east of the railroad bridge. We'll meet and take the mower in at the intersection of Goodrich Road and Overlook drive (Just west of France Avenue) where we can access the trail via the gate to the paved dowhill trail.
Date: Monday 28 June
Time: 6PM
Meeting Place: Overlook Drive and Goodrich Road - easiest access is south on France Avenue (remember there is construction and therefore delays at France & Old Shakopee Road) until it turns right & into Overlook Drive - travel one block on Overlook to Goodrich Road, take a right and park on Goodrich Road. (you can also access Overlook from Normandale Road south of Shakopee Road)
Bring: long pants, sturdy shoes, water, gloves, bug protection or tolerance, loppers or other trimming devices - I will have several + the DR trail mower. If you have ear protection bring that too - good for using the trail mower.
Contact me if you have any questions or if you'd like to work individually at another time I can point you in the right direction and lend you tools:

Trail is now well mowed for the mile or so west of the raft.
Trail is also quite dry and certainly rideable.
We may consider one more trimming session next Monday the 5th (I know this is holiday for some) let me know if you would be available to assist that day and at what time.

Steve any chance that when you are done mowing, we could load up the DR and bring it over to Harmon for some mowing?
I don't have any way to transport it, but if it is already out for use that would work great.
I rode today some some of the stuff is narrower than the handlebars and 3 feet over my head. makes for some interesting riding.
Thanks
James

The DR mower is down. Thanks to Randy and Josh we mowed much of the remaining trail but then the belt broke which drives the blade. Once it is back operating we will hopefully finish things up. Then the mower can be used other places.
