Just curious if anyone might know if it is legal to ride Eagle Mountain? I've hiked up it before and thought it'd be cool to ride to the top and back. Don't wanna piss off the locals however if it is not legal. Is there another way up besides the hiking trail?

Thanks for the info

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Eagle Mountain is located in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and it is illegal for mountain bikes or any other mechanized means of travel to ride in any designated federal wilderness area. I know the US Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer up there, and a lot of the USFS Wilderness Rangers. They will ticket you for having a bike in there, and the LEO and state Conservation Officers can also confiscate your bike under federal law.

Now that I am done yelling, go talk with Mark Spinler at Superior North Outfitters in Grand Marais or Jeff Lynch at Sawtooth Outfitters in Tofte. They can tell lot lots of places to ride away from Lutsen and the crowds. I have seen moose tracks and a timber wolf on trails that Jeff told me about. Mark is supposed to know every inch of ridable trail in the Tofte/Grand Marais area.

Ride safe,

There are however some sweet fire road trails right at Two Island Lake that go for miles that are elgal to ride! Check them out, as well as the ones across the road. Tons of legal stuff to ride up there, while it may not be singletrack, its something to ride. Or you can head to Lutsen!!! There are also some nice trails right at Cascade Falls, its like a 30 mile loop some road/fire road/singletrack, worth the ride if your there!

Thanks for the info both.

I did not know that Eagle mtn was in the BWCA or I would not have asked about riding it.

Lutsen is not totally out of the picture but its me and my girlfriend and i'm not sure she'd be up to Lutsen. It would be a blast though.

We're staying at Cascade st. park so I know they have a few miles of trails there. Also where is this loop near cascade falls Douglas, that sounds doable.

We're planning on hitting Pincoushin mtn for sure, i've heard it has some nice lookouts, mostly fireroads of course but it'll do.

I'll swing by Superior North Outfitters and see what suggestions they have as well.

Thanks again for the help, i've been up there plenty of times and I finally get to bring the bike.

Well, if you were gonna be at Eagle mtn, lutsens just up the road but it costs, while cascade is closer up the road and that route is free :)
