This National Trails Day event will take place on Saturday, June 5th from 9 AM to 1 PM. Volunteers will be reclaiming a section of eroded trail, putting up new signs, and cutting back branches on a new section of trail. MORC will provide tools and direction and REI will bring T-shirts and boxed lunches. No experience is necessary. Volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather and bring work gloves, insect repellant, and sunscreen. Please email dbegall@rei.com (dbegall@rei.com) or call (952) 884-4315 ext. 203 for more information or to pre-register (required for proper lunch).

The event was a real success! There were about 50 volunteers that showed up at Terrace Oaks to take part in a National Trails Day event held by REI.
There was trail trimming and fixing being done while another group worked to re-claim some of the old nasty trails to make room for even better trails. Hopefully the city of Burnsville will see what we are capable of doing and will allow MORC to build or fix even more trail at Terrace Oaks.
I posted some images from the event in the gallery (http://www.morcmtb.org/photopost/index.php?) and there are alternate images available here: www.wintersnow.org (http://www.wintersnow.org/)

Yes, my pics were mostly based where I was at the re-claiming spot.. everyone should realize there was a ton more people out doing trimming and trail cleanup. No, Doug didn't just show up for a sub... ;)
Being at Terrace definitely makes me think this trail is neglected too much and has some real potential.

Wow, 50. That's great. Do the REI Events always draw that many.

In the past it seems more like 30ish.. I think being national trails day helped as there was some that actually came directly because of that.
We did some recruiting for you though.. you might even see a boy scout troop come out sometime - they were hard workers.
I haven't ridden Terrace in some time and after helping out with some of the trimming today I'm ready to ride there again.

Looks like you had a great turnout. Good to see that Terrace is getting some much needed attention. Sorry I could not be there today, I was in Grand Marais doing some trail design work on the Pin Cushion trail system.
The one section that I worked on has the potential to be a 4-6 mile trail of Intermediate to expert level of difficulty. The local group up there also has permission to put trails on an additional 40 Acres owned by the county. All they need to do is get permission from the National Forest Service to cross the land that is owned by the feds.
We also reviewed an area that could provide a couple of miles of trail on a granite outcropping. This area could provide the opportunity to build a trail that would have everything, 3-4 foot drop ins, incredible traction, challenging terrain--the list goes on and on. Most of this stuff is 2-3 years away but that is why it is called planning!!!
Will keep you informed.

Cool!
I was bummed I couldn't be there to help out, but I guess I had fun smacking people with paint balls.
