I was busy killing as many brain cells as possible, probably didn't even have a bike.

20 years ago I was four years old. I had actually been riding my bike for around a year at that time (took to biking pretty young eh?).
Great blast from the past. Surprised to find that our bikes haven't increased in price according to inflation! Ritchey and Fisher truly had one of the greatest impacts on bicycling to date. I thank them for their spirited craziness everytime I straddle my steed.
Thanks for sharing the article.

I should add that training wheels were on my bike for one or two days. My parents fought with me to keep them on until they found me on the back deck trying to bend the wheels out of the way! Stubborn then, stubborn now.

I was two years old, don't think I had a bike... But I do remember my first bike, crom bike with training wheels and pads. Ah...the good old days..
Thanks for the good read Marty.
20 years puts me back on a bmx bike cruising the dirt roads and dreading the hill I had to climb before getting to my friends house.
That same hill is now conquered in about 30 seconds with a few good standing pedal strokes. It's amazing how things were so much bigger then.

20 years ago this summer I would be putting on 30 miles a day / 3x per week on my ten speed - that's total gears not the rear cassette. ;) I'd make the trip to meet some friends at Cleary Lake in Prior Lake. Now I understand why I was such a skinny runt back then.

Twenty years ago I was a roadie, still adjusting to a transfer to the corporate office, where I could no longer ride my bicycle to work and wear "blue collar" work clothes and get my hands dirty on my job. I had gone from being a plant manager who cursed the "downtown b**stards" to being a downtown b**stard myself.
I was recovering from a bad ankle fracture (dirt bike), and inspired by the fact that Phil Mahre, olympic gold medalist in slamom skiing, had an ankle full of plates and screws that looked much like mine. I decided that even though I was not much of an athlete, my ankle should be no handicap to my future efforts in X-C skiing and cycling. Time has proven that to be true.

20 years ago I was 14 and riding all over creation on my Haro Freestyle. I was on a team called Flight Freestyle with Charlie Kasbomb and John Huges. I think we put on like 2 shows total. A year or two later Charlie had opened up a place in Eden Prarie called "Ramp City" with his parents help. It had one massive 1/2 pipe (10ft radius with a foot of vert), 2 1/4 pipes, and some kick ramps. I had switched over to skate boarding by then. Bikes and boards were welcome, anybody remember that place?

20 years ago I use to pick up chics on my BEAUTIFUL Race Inc BMX bike. All the chics had bmx bikes then and we would swap pads... I had traded in my anodized blue frame to an all silver one by then, but still had the blue rims with the red plastic coated spokes with BLUE tires (what were they good for, except style?). Anyone remember plastic coated spokes??????????
My first bike was blue. I have had sooo many blue bikes and many silver... The funny thing is my newest is all blue... been on it for a full week now.
Any one know what happend to Race Inc? I loved that bike... Haven't felt the same way about one since. Dang, I want an anodized Blue SC Blur sooooo bad!!!! :cryin: I would treat it so nice... RIGHT!!!! ;)
I cracked my first Race Inc over 5 times.

What a great read!
The guys in the photos look so funny riding in regular clothes...
I was 8 and probably had either a red Hercules 5 spd or a green 3 spd with the twist grip. I passed the time in my dad's bike shop sweeping the floors, rearranging the displays and cleaning the bathroom...isn't there a word for that - oh yeah - nepotism.
Two years later I would ride my first double century!! whoa...
I didn't get my first mountain bike frame until 92 - Bridgestone MB-1 - ohhhh yeahhhh.

I still dress like that when I ride. I grab my bike and go with what I'm wearing at the time. I did a race last weekend wearing a pair of long pants, a shinny silver shirt and sneakers.

20 years ago? I was 9 that would be in 4th grade so if I wasn't riding my bike terrorizing the neighborhood with my shiny new BB gun (I took out a lot of windows, someone should have beat me with it), I was in detention writing sentences after school. That's about all I remember from that time.
I'm not sure what my bike was. It was some kind of BMX bike. My dad and I would go over to BJ's bike shop in brooklyn park and get parts. Some kind of generic frame and lots of replacement parts. It was silver and had BLUE TIRES!!! that made it faster. I couldn't get caught with my BB gun with the blue tires.

I don't think so. That area has really changed. My mom still lives near there. Do you remember like the ponderosa steak house, the denny's (that used to be sambo's) and village north, and like the mcdonalds on the corner of brooklyn blvd and zane? I guess it's all been torn down. Some developer was going to put something in (can't remember what) and then went bankrupt. BJ's was basically right behind village north (more behind century court apts), so I'm guessing it might have got the axe too, but I seem to remember they went away years ago.

I lived off of Brooklyn Blvd and Zane for a year in some crappy old apartment back in the late 80's. Crazy how things change. I use to use the ATM in the Village North Parking lot all the time.

So did I, people would come up and honk at me because I was on my bike using the ATM. THey prob thought I was a kid screwing with it.
Ahhh how the old stomping ground changes. I used to live a couple blocks off 65th and brooklyn blvd. Went to the elementry school there, went to park center...
I went back to park center about 5 years ago to give a presentation to the electronics class there for part of my senior design project. I thought things changed quite a bit then. Seemed like everything was under construction. Now that Olds went under I wonder what is going to happen to the bob ryan oldsmobile dealership that was there just north of 694.

Me, 20 years ago... some little bastage stole my BMX bike. I cried for a while until I bought my first road bike and did my first century ride at age 13.

somewhere in Uganda or Kenia, a couple of month before I met that american who showed me real MTBs. Saw a (AM) Moulton the first time in real life.
Changed my life totally.
Today I´m a proud owner & user of a recumbent, a MTB and (of course) a BoB YAK (modified)
