I have a total new respect for sprinters in the pro peloton. The cat 3/4 race today at Durand came down to a 30-up field sprint and after 56 miles, it admittedly was not as fast as it could have been. The pro sprinters, man.... they can go full bore after six hours or more in the saddle sometimes. It's like being able to run a 12-second 100meter dash after running a marathon....

Andy,
A 30 person field sprint?? I had heard that a group of 10 or so had gotten a little gap right at the end???? Even 10 people can be a lot to be sprinting for the line... 30 makes things even tighter. Must have been all those 'd@mn sprinters' sitting in all race hu??;)
ps The results say there was only a field of 31?? That seems small compared to the 4/5 that had 110+ racers.

It may not have been 30 but it was definitely more than 10. I was under the impression that the 3/4 field had about 55 riders at the start. I would say there were at least 20-25 rolling up to the line together.
Kinda funny... 2 big teams in that race. (And by big I mean 7+ riders) GP and GIS. Both spent all day trying to get riders off the front, but it comes down to a field sprint and the best GP can manage is fourth and the best GIS can manage is like sixth.
Top 3 guys were lone rangers. Makes me laugh....
