The US Forest Service has approved the addition of a new bike/hike backcountry campsite in the Simpson Creek Non-motorized Area, north of Cutfoot Sioux Visitor Center on MN Hwy. 46. The campsite will be at the same location as the current picnic site on the F-V trail (The same site shown on the "Patrol" page of "www.trailpatrol.org") Modification of the picnic site will include mowing and brushing out the clearing, leveling out a "tent pad," installation of a fire ring/grate and BWCA-type latrine, and eliminating any poison ivy in the area. The campsite and it's location are based on the reccomendations of the Backcountry Trail Patrol, which patrols the area under a volunteer agreement with the Forest Service. The BTP will assist in the construction of the site, and will provide ongoing maintenance as part of their patrols. A second campsite is under consideration in the southern part of Simpson Creek Area, in a grove of tall red pine trees.
