Anti-bikers have tried to sabotage the trail system! On the trails North of the parking area, my friend and I removed several obstructions from the trail today. Dozens of branches, pushed over dead trees, and logs were put in strategic locations. I feel someone or a group of people may be trying to injure us! Judging by the selection of were these obstructions were placed such as around sharp corners, sticks placed in fencing that would scrape you up as you rode by are some examples of their tactics. We have removed all of those items, but be careful, they could come back! It’s a little un-nerving to know there are people out there stupid enough to do such things. If it happens again to anyone we have to notify park officials of the problem!!!
Stay safe,
Mike.

I thought that s**t only happened in Cali. Thanks for the information and cleaning that up. I ride that park a lot on weekends. I'll keep an eye out for sabotage and saboteurs when i'm out there.

Be careful about making accusations. I agree that there may be somebody putting things in the trail because I cleaned a bunch out last week. I thought, however, that some of them fell naturally. The rest looked like they had been put there by a dumb biker trying to make a challenge for himself. I remember that there was one big log around a sharp corner that I wasn't able to move, so that might be one of the things that you saw. That one, however, looked natural. The sticks in a fence might me something that happened naturally and I just missed it when I was cleaning up the trail.
Basically what I'm saying is: There probably is somebody putting stuff in the trail, but it might just be a biker that doesn't know any better. Some of it could also be natural. It is probably not wise at this point to start accusing hikers. If we make accusations and start a war with the hikers it could quickly snowball into something like Cali.
Oh yeah, and thanks for doing your part and cleaning things up.

Yes, thank you very much! While sometimes its not a good idea to do any moving of anything out on the trails (we've had riders move logs at Lebanon that we meant to put in the trail) this type of clean-up is more common sense and something I would hope everyone would be willing to do.
Today I did a few laps at Leb and noticed a number of branches lying on the trail... they were still there from when I rode a day before. While I normally clean them off I was curious to see if anyone else would pitch in. There is also a LOT of garbage out on the trail(s) - lets all do our part to try pick up stuff as we ride around, especially this time of year when its all real visible.
Thanks again for doing your part! However this stuff is happening we can all team together and keep it from causing any major issues...

I rode Hillside tonight and noticed a new downed tree that was not there yesterday. After a bit I thought of this thread and started to think about sabotage because I seen quite a few hikers yesterday. But I looked around and determined that it just fell, windy day, dead tree... just mother nature. But anyway, I stopped and cleared what I could but there is still the main branch over the trail. Watch out for it, right after the midway cutout (from the back of the road). Just a FYI. See you at Leb Sat..?? I'm making a day out of it!

I heard some interesting rumours. Keep in mind, this is third hand information so it's likly no more than a rumour. I heard it from a mechanic at Erik's who heard it from one of his customers.
But, he says that there is a crazy lady running around battle creek in a black cloak with a big staff and burning incense. She yells at bikers and puts logs in the trails. She would alse be the person that wrote "Forest of the Godess" on one of our mountain biking signs.
I don't know how much truth there is in this story but it sure is funny.

Someone *has* to get a picture of this person if they do indeed exist. Too funny...

I see the "Wyrd Witch of the Woods" sightings forum in our future......
I'm probably going to do an early morning ride at Battle on Sat. or Sunday. I have to keep my eye out to see if she makes any sunrise appearances.

ROTLMAO!!!!
Well....., not really, but I did see a very large wild turkey, I was at the top of the big climb up from the road catching my breath and I looked up and this gi-normous black thing was running down the trail towards me. It was about 3.5 feet tall, and really moving. I thought is was the goddess! (actually no, I didn't.) Once he saw me he took off and flew over the side of the hill, I thought he was gonna drop like a rock, I was suprised those little wings could hold that fat-a up. You don't see those every day, especially in the cities.
Watch out for wild turkeys chasing you down, they're probably more dangerous than the goddess of the forest, they'll peck your eyes out! :crazy2:
I wrote a post last summer describing how I almost got taken out by a couple of turkeys as they took off and flew across the trail. A friend of mine almost had a deer run into him also. Plenty of stuff to keep ya on your toes at BC!

No, YOU don't see those every day. There's a wooded park across the street from my house. I see them all the time walking down my street, on the truck, on the roof...I've got a good picture :D
Also some red foxes in the same wooded park area. Just west-northwest from North Memorial Hospital.

Saw a woman like you describe last weekend at River bottoms. She had a cloak, wasn't black, but did have a staff... she was climbing up the hill to the parking lot as we were going down, had to be careful to avoid taking her out.
