Where does everyone get there glasses they use for MTBing? I only have regular driving glasses and could use some good MTB ones. Any recommendations? I don't have a whole lot of $$ as I just bought my new bike. Thanks for your input.

I just wear an old pair of sunglasses (8 year old oakleys) that I won't be too heartbroken if they get broken when I do a face plant sometime.

I bought 2 pair (different tints) of Native Ryde polarized sunglasses for cheap ($20/each) over the winter. The glasses cling to my sweat soaked nogin, and they wrap all around my head to limit the airflow. Although they have small vents, I've had a problem with them fogging up on cool days when I stop. All the more reason to keep going, eh? :)

I have two pairs... an ancient pair of Smiths with Blue frames and yellow lenses that I call my uber-geek glasses and a pair of Oakley Half Jackets that I love. The Oakleys really stay put, have replaceable lens and are so light and unobtrusive that I never notice them...

Maybe not the cheapest though... http://oakley.com/catalog/colors/eyewear/omatter/half_jacket/xlj/gunmetal_g30

For $7.99 at the gas station on Cliff Road just West of 35E, I got a pair of yellow, high UV-rated "aviator" style glasses with yellow tint Saturday.

Oh yeah, baby. Just think Walter (John Goodman) in The Big Lebowski. Not only are they the absolute coolest-looking pair of sunglasses you will ever see, but they block harmful UV, protect your eyes from debris and they brighten dark areas.

Smith Sliders---old school ones for mtn
Rudy Project Kerosene--road and mtn sometimes

The thing ive found with glasses for me, is i got a tiny head so they never fit me righ, and once i finally find a pair (my 8 year old smiths) they stop making them and i cant get em anywhere when i break em :(

I'd used Smith Sliders for a long time, but I recently misplaced them. The Smiths and other "active" wear brands are nice because they are flexible (thus durable) and the frames are made out of that "sticky" material so that the glasses won't slide down your nose when you get sweaty. The one thing that I didn't like about the Smiths was that sweat coming off your brow would collect at the bottoms of the lenses by the frame (only happens when cycling because you're leaning forward all the time).

So, at Erik's I found they have the expensive Rudy Projects, Smiths, Oakleys and such. But they also have some decent cheaper stuff. I found some "Ryders" brand glasses that were OK and were the "hanging lens" style to deal with the sweat collector problem. I haven't seen as good a selection at other bike shops.

yeah i hate them pools, especially when you hit a rough section and it blows back into your eyes, always only when its real hot out and your hands are too wet to wipe it away without putting more in there too Grrrrrrrr..........

I'm using Smith Slider Mainlines. Haven't had a "pool" problem, but I have had to resort to a headband on really hot days to keep the sweat out of my eyes. Just call me Mike Reno.

I use Oakley Half Jacket XLJs. More often than not I use the G30 tint. The XLJ gives nice coverage and protection. The G30 tint is great for cycling in and out of the shadows of the woods. ($120)

Uvex Genesis gives great protective coverage and protection at a lower cost. (<$10)

I use smith slider SL2's. Check out REI for a good selection of sport glasses.SL2's were only about $60 when I got them (2-3 years ago).

My philosophy on sunglasses goes something like this: If you spend more on them, you take better care of them, combined with being higher quality, they last much longer (compared to gas-station glasses). I tend to be much less likely to break/lose shades I actually spent money on. I think $60-100 is worth a good pair of sunglasses. I don't think I would buy a pair of the $150+ pairs unless I was going glaciering or climbing everest or something...

I got a pair of Smith Buzzsaws and a pair of Smith Bazookas. Both are grat and have interchangeable lenses. I usually use the yellow or the clear. I'd love to get some like this guy. :alien:

I used to have a pair of Smith SL2s till an unfortunate accident. I have been using the Smith Mainlines since and really like them. Hold to my head great, keeps the air out. And the best part, interchangable lenses.

i used to wear my Oakleys, but the pool problem others have talked about really bugged me.
so i grabbed two different pairs of saftey glasses from work, one yellow tint, and one clear.
these aren't the big bulky saftey glasses some places use.
the ones we have are very stream-lined and people who don't know any better think they are regular sunglasses.
i get people all the time with, "where can i get a pair of those", i say one of a kind man....sorry!!
too funny.

Peace-
Joe

I have been wearing Optic Nerve for about the past three years and love them. They are great glasses at half the price of Oakley and Smith. I have about four pairs for different riding and am very very happy with them. I know Eriks and Penn carried them. Their site is www.nerveusa.com (http://www.nerveusa.com)

If your looking for prescription glasses I got mine off of http://sportrx.com/

They were the cheapest place I found. They had a ton of lens colors to choose from. I got a pair of Bolle' with Amber lenses which are great for in and out of the woods.

Well, I went to Gander Mountain and found a good pair of yellow/orange glasses for $12. They worked great at Hillside today, didn't move and brought out the bumps. Now I have to look for a clear pair.

Oh yeah, I'm sporting the same pair... They work, and like someone said, I won't be devastated when I break them with my face...
