View Full Version : Server outage this afternoon

Some of you may have noticed the account suspended message when hitting the web site today around 4pm. Apparently our ISP has noticed a large number of hits on our site - 2.5 million in just 4 days to be exact.

I cannot believe this is normal activity, so I'm working with the ISP to resolve this situation. If we really are generating this much traffic we will be forced to move to a different system rather than the "shared" virtual server we reside on currently.

Hopefully our ISP won't just pull the plug on us again - I find it is not very good customer service to do this without first attempting to contacting me. If we go offline again rest assured I will have things back as quickly as possible.

Until we figure this out, I ask everyont to please continue to use the system... but not to do any unnecessary "refreshes" of pages waiting for new posts or anything that would generate constant hits in an unnecessary way. I'll be going over the log files for the site to try find the IP addresses of the systems hitting us so hard and hopefully we can just block those. Again, keep using the site - but try to do it as gently as possible for the next day or two ;)

More on this as soon as I get more information.

Would you believe it? Our host is giving us the boot!

This means I basically have to order a new server, move all our data and forums and re-configure EVERYTHING on a new system. This is just NOT good timing.

So, as I work to move things over, please forgive us for any outages that might happen in the meantime. I'm going to try keep things online here before we switch over to the new server that I just got.

I emailed the guy and verified that we have a good fit. He said that many on the same service that we are on now are making the move... so I'm confident this will be a good home for us without silly poor customer service interruptions.

More on this as I progress with the move. Again, please know that if the site goes down we'll have it back up as quickly as possible.

Also, the IP address for the new site is 69.93.121.82 - this means you can reach it at http://69.83.121.82 even before our domain name (morcmtb.org) moves over. It is not ready yet, of course, but if you bookmark this site and our current one goes down I will try get some kind of update or news posted there. I'll take tomorrow off from work and try get this moved over in 24 hours if possible... I want to be riding, not messing with the site. :embarass:

Wow, what is their problem? Can you give us the name of this ISP so we know not to ever use them!!

venturesonline.com is where we are at now. I'm moving us to f5hosting.com - hopefully with much better results.

BTW: did your avatar change slightly in the past few days, or am I just noticing something now.. ;)

Every few weeks or so Shad's avatar changes every so slightly ... this latest rendition was updated a couple weeks ago!

Someone noticed finally....

The original pic has no woman in it. I have changed it twice now with a new woman each time. They like to watch me skate.......:D. Brian, the dude in the background, was there. I didn't have to add him because he's not a hottie.....:scream:.

I bet it is a group of militant hikers that are launching ping attacks to use up the bandwidth:crazy:
