I've had the big map on my hard drive since last summer, but I couldn't remember where the heck I downloaded it from. Thanks!

Hey, I'm all for promoting bike commuting et. al. (I've commuted year round for a number of years), but this map is kind of lame. It basically points out designated bike paths on-road and off-road. But where are the roads that are designated bike routes (you know - the ones with the green "bike route" signs) that do not have a nicely cordoned off bike path/lane??? I guess I already know the answer to that - why bother showing them when cities basically don't really care about maintaining them or promoting them for bicycle transit?
This map demonstrates what is wrong with city planning of bike routes from a transit perpective. Notice the disjoint bike paths that go nowhere. For example, the section on France Ave. in Bloomington. Who wants to ride alongside 50 mph traffic on a pothole infested path only to end up just short of the overpass to 494 where gridlock lies ahead for the next 3 miles??
Most "bike paths" are good for taking a Sunday stroll for a mile or two, turning around and going back home. That's about it.
Unfortunately, the map is out of date too. For instance it still shows that you can cross the Minnesota river at Old Cedar/Hwy 77. We probably won't see that again for at least 10 years.
I think we should get input from bike commuters on the routes that they actually use and construct a more useful map. Methinks it would look very different than this map.

Okay Jar Jar........
I have to go near the 494 France area a lot. I actually try to cross at York and then cut over to France on American. Sometimes I do just cross 494 because I want to go through Centenial Lakes to check out all the babes....I mean Ducks that hang out around there. Then I just take a lane and don't let anyone else use it.....they have plenty of other lanes to choose from in that area.....so I am not about to share mine.........:p.
