Neither did I but I did take the mountain bike for a road ride and with all the sand on the streets that's kind of like riding offroad :) .

I did not go off-road and will not for quite some time, darn snow... However, I did take a paved trail ride. Even some of the paved trails still have snow on them but I'm guessing most will be gone by the weekend. Old man winter just doesn't want to go away!! :(

for about 30 feet. Then I turned around and went for a hike! And that was still sketchy. The top 2-3 inches of soil are beginning to thaw, but under that it's still frozen. We've got a loooooong ways to go folks! :scream: This weekend will help, rain and everything.

Well said... I'm itching to ride too, but I'm also itching to build new trail rather than fix old ruts.

Rain certainly will help. I hope it pours every weekend to keep the bulk of the riders from heading out to the trails... then gets 70 and sunny on the weekdays. ;)

There's plenty of fun to be had without going off road. We had a killer ride tonight. Started at St. Anthony, rode down the river to the Airport, headed back up to downtown St. Paul and then came home. 3+ hours of riding in the dark, good times.

Oh yeah, this was all fat tire, we found a few staircases to ride down and other mayhem along the way.

Nope, but I rode on road on my Road bike to and from work. Then I tuned up my freestyle bike and rode that to and from school. Yeah.....no jacket, just shorts and a T-Shirt.

I went out exploring last night. It was a great ride. I discovered that south of the river in St. Paul there are some killer hills. Great work out on the way up and I swear I was hitting 45mph on the way down. I was just flying! Mostly rode on terra firma but it was still a great ride. I hatched out my rim though... that sucks:cryin: .

You know I am getting annoyed at the rims I buy. I am going to head up to County Cycles and have them lace up a wheel that will last. I swear a rim lasts me about two months and then its out the door. What the hell am I doing wrong? It's always the back -- which this time around is an Alex rim. I do ride stairs and enjoy the view from a few feet off the ground. But I can't believe I go through wheels like I do.

Wouldn't you have called yourself a ssup then?Isn't that ebonics for the common phrase, 'What is up?'

There was a discussion (http://www.morcmtb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9060&page=2&pp=15&highlight=spokes)on this very topic last year. I noticed similar problems with spokes in recent years (kept popping 'em). I'm more comfortable on an intermediate trail, zipping along fast and keeping both wheels on the ground at all time, yet I was popping spokes left and right on my new StumpJumper!

Turns out, these days they use machines to build wheels for the most part, not homo sapiens, and this can be the source of many problems, like a wheel being straight at first, but the spokes all being unevenly tensioned, so you get a few spokes bearing great load and the others hardly any at all.

When this happens, spokes pop. If you're jumping and going down stairs, I'd imagine it could cause wheels to get damaged. If you do get a bike shop or someone who knows what they're doing to hand build a wheel for you, you'll have significantly better results.

Shad rebuilt my rear wheel with a Bontrager off-center rim and Wheelsmith spokes just before last year's May Maah Daah Hey 100 mile ride. I rode the rest of the season on that wheel around Lebanon and finally started jumping and really beating on the bike. Last I looked, the wheel's still nice and straight. :)

It's nice to know my wheel is still holding up......:).

I get better with each wheel I build. I just built two new wheels...okay, new rims on my existing hubs....and they are nice and tight......:).

Anyone need a wheel built, I have all the stuff to do it and about 7 or so years experience building wheels at TC BMX......wheels that got real abused.

I would probably have to charge something.....but I wouldn't charge too much...:D.

Yes, I did. I rode off the road, on the road, on the paved trails, on the asphalt paths, anywhere I could. Mostly paved trails around Robbinsdale. Even the crushed limestone trails are still to mucky to ride on.

But I did RIDE!!!

Ride safe,

I also road today, almost the same stuff as you. Paved trails, roads, etc... Great ride, refreshing. I also jumped anything I could find. lol I'm trying to break in my new bike. It now needs it's first wash. lol Oh ya, I'm also going for another short ride in about 15. So, gtg, later!

Well, among my many errands today I stopped by County Cycles. I am going to try a hand built wheel and see if that will hold up to my abuse. It will be ready for by Thursday -- until then I will have to ride gently so my bike will get me to work! I am also going to work on landing a little softer (as discussed in other forums).

The guy at County said I shouldn't need a DH rim... I accepted his advice and will find out how much better a hand built rim is!
