<img src="http://www.morcmtb.org/images/calltoaction.gif" align="left" hspace="10" vspace="2">We need all fellow cyclists to do a HUGE favor and take a few minutes to compose an email or send a letter to Washington County supporting the development of Mountain bike trails at Pine Point Park. Jim Cassell and MORC have been presenting the proposal to the Wash. County staff and Washington County Parks and Open Space Commission since November/03. The proposal has plenty of positive momentum, however, the horse users have become VERY vocal against allowing new users in the park.
Though the area of the park that is being considered contains zero horse trails and is separated from the portion of the park that horse use by a county road, the equestrians view the park as their private riding area.
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO: Write an email or snail mail letter that respectfully (no thrashing out at horse users) supports the development of mountain biking at Pine Point Park.
ADDRESS:
Email: James.Luger@co.washington.mn.us
Street Address: Jim Luger
11660 Myeron Rd N.
Stillwater, MN 55082
Themes to consider:
We are not planning to use existing horse trails.
Pine Point Park is NOT a private park for equestrians only.
MORC is a responsible volunteer organization that has a proven record of success in other MN parks.
What we are proposing is not a new, unproven concept. We are asking that the Parks Commission to consider implementing a plan that has been so successful in other MN parks.
Mountain Biking appeals to all ages, families, and especially young people - and young people increasingly need healthy, active, recreational opportunities (less TV/video games).
Attached are two fine examples to get you started. Please do not simply print these out and send them in, but use them as guidelines. Cookie-cutter letters will not show our passion for new trails.
Please read the Washington County Trails thread for more details and further discussion:
