Is there a date, or rough estimate, yet for when we'll be starting work on the Theo Wirth test trail? I'm chomping at the bit! :)

There isn't any concrete schedule yet, but hopefully work will start this spring. MOCA is in the final stages of getting approval and permits and such.

We expect to officially begin trail work sometime in May!! Our proposal was accepted onApril 7th, and trail work will begin as soon as we can get it scheduled. We are currently waiting on one more environmental assessment and the construction permits.

I'm itching for updates!

I've recently decided to actually search for and try out the Brownie Lake and Theo trails and they're pretty nice, considering. I'm anxious to get out to Theo with some tools and signage and spiff the place up! Any new word yet on dates for work? (I know, I keep asking ... sorry)

Soon :)

Bill O'Reilly and Shawn Sheely are working hard at designing the new trail system and we should be able to get out there and start making improvements before too long.

Wednesday is tenatively the day scheduled for trailwork at Theo and there will also be some weekend sessions scheduled.

Sorry if this is kind of vague, but there is still a bit of work that has to be finished behind the scenes before we can break out the McLeod's and Pulaski's.

Stay tuned.

as much as i've enjoyed doing trail work at battle creek, lebanon hills and terrace oaks, i'm really looking forward to putting in some hours at wirth park. i love all of these trails dearly, but the wirth trails are the only ones i can ride to from home.

i might be the only city kid who feels just the smallest tinge of guilt when i load up the car and drive 30-45 minutes to get in a good ride. not enough to keep me from riding, of course. regardless, it's going to feel good to build on the excellent trail work that exists at wirth with the knowledge that it won't all go away with a shift of bureaucratic whim.

for those of you who haven't yet put wheels on the wirth trails, you're in for a pleasant surprise. while it lacks monster climbs and white-knuckle downhills, it's tight, twisty singletrack at its best. it's great terrain for singlespeeds, too. two minutes of pedalling from the parkway and you'd never know you were less than a mile from downtown.

ok, enough gushing. let's get to work...

The current plan, if all the design and layout work goes well and gets promptly ok'd by the park board, is to start the actual trail work in May (probably 3rd week, or so).

This from Bill O'Reilly:

"I am the new Wirth Park Trail Steward and that they should contact me at ssbiker@comcast.net or home 763.544.8840 or cel 763.286.3646 if they have any questions about trail work. MOCA's first work session will be this Wednesday (5-12-04) and every Wednesday following until season end.. We will be starting the first reroute and grooming some existing trails.

If the members have any trail tools it would be nice, as MOCA doesn't have any yet.

Park at the golf course or par three lots and ride bikes to the access road just south of the par three clubhouse."

went for a ride at wirth tonight. you can definitely tell a storm went through--lots of stray branches and a little more stuff laying on the trail than usual. including bunches of these fluffy leaves that must've kicked up a ton of pollen when i was riding over them.

the only section i saw that looked a bit more shady than usual was on the east end close to the railroad tracks. some of the sinkholes back there (if you've been there, you know what i'm talking about) have gotten quite a bit bigger. including one that basically swallowed and terminally taco'd the front wheel of a guy i met out there. he and his buddy were over the road truckers who'd seen something about wirth on the web. the guy said he'd be back aagin, with a better bike.

and the family grows...

Bummer about his wheel but that's cool to hear.

I rode Wirth Monday and it was practically packed with riders! Turns out the Kenwood group ride was out there. Still, was pretty cool seeing the trail getting good use. :)

Just wondering if work is still planned for Theo today. There have been T-storms since noon today around my house.

Keep an eye on the MOCA website (http://www.mocatrails.org), there will be an update around 4. As of now trailwork is still on.

So, Mister Chomping at the Bit, are you to busy being Racer Boy now? :fool:

You talk the talk, do you walk the walk?
