Yo
A group of MORCers are going to get together tonight for a ride through DT/UofMn/NE Mpls. Meet outside of Tuggs River Saloon (St. Anthony Main) tonight at 6PM, hooligan around for a couple of hours, then repair to Tuggs for beer and chow.
Reply if coming so we know who to wait for.
Bring your hill-climbing legs ;o)

Maybe,
I am heading down to One-on-One to pick up the bikes tonight so I might just meet you all down there.
What are we looking at for numbers?

Not sure,
Only the single was done the last time I checked with GeneO. I really don't want to leave the other ride on top of the car for an extended period of time downtown. I'll probably throw it in the back of the wagon if it is done.
Plan was to pick the rides up around 5:30 - 5:45 and then head over and try to find a parking spot by Tuggs. any suggestions? If I get lucky I might just wait until 6:00pm and get a free meter spot down by One-on-One.
keep me posted.
FYI. GeneO might have a ride going out tonight also, but they don't leave until 9:00 usually.

I don't think you'll have any problems with a bike in the back of the wagon for a couple of hours. As for parking, I can't offer any good suggestions except that there are lots of spaces available on 2nd Street.
Hope to see you so that singles outnumber gearies ;o)
My cell is 612.805.0887 if'n you need it.

Sounds good Mark,
That is what I kinda figured. Now I just need to decide if I want to run 36/20, 34/20, 36/17, or 34/17. hmmm decissions decissions..
Oh and a prickly plant seed told me that there might be a silvery container:crazy2: to be hunted for on our ride tonight:confused: . I'll have more info when I see you all tonight.
We also can hash out the fruita trip if we have time.
See you tonight.

36-17 for me. See you kids tonight.
Hey all,
Thanks for the great ride last night. It was a jolly time.
Mark, nice route. Since I don't ride downtown much, it was nice to learn a good loop.

For those of you that swap gears depending on the ride - I need some info.
I run a 42/17 for riding around town - paths/some roads on the commute.
I want to swap that gearing out for something lower to hit the trails with, so I figure I throw the 36 on the front - and then what? Do you put on a shorter chain, take some links out of your current chain, or will a Singleator take up the slack?
I had the chain running around the bottom of the Singleator for a while, just had the bike cleaned up for spring, and the mech ran the chain over the top of the Singleator. I now dont skip when I mash on the gears.
thx

A couple of things.
I also used to run my chain pulled up toward the Stay but that created issues. Due to my frame, on almost all gearings it rubbed the chain along the stay.
I have since changed it over to pushing the chain away from the stay and I onlt have problems with skipping if the chain is to long. You want to run the absolute shortest chain possible.
Thus, I run 1 chain for 34/17 and a different chain for 34/20. A have a third chain for 36/17 I just use a 8 speed SRAM chain with a quick connect in it. Makes for a very fast change over. Take less time than changing the tire around even.
The most important part is to make sure the chain is as short as possible without streching to work on the grearing you want. If the chain is to long and the Singulator is having to take up alot of slack in the push away mode, you will skip alot. due to having fewer teeth on the cog engaged by the chain. more slack also allows for a greater chance of hopping the chain off in rough conditions.
hope this helps
James
My single has always been set up 36-17. I've got a 20 tooth that I've thought about putting on at some point but just have never done it. If I did that I'd go James' route and designate another chain for it.
My singleator is also in the push-down config. My chain is fairly snug so I've never had a problem.

A couple of things.
lordy, you guys run some tall gears. i'm running a 34/18 on the 26" and a 32/20 on the 29".
w/ a soulcraft on the 29", i've been able to use a 18, 19 & 20 w/o changing the chain length and have no skipping problems. changing the surly pulley for a mrp orange poly "pulley" made a big difference also.

We don't have to deal with a 600' elevation change as we ride across town. ;)

A few of us that rode on Wed. night (and other who could not make it) - are riding Sunday.
We are thinking Uptown, because we will be doing the NE/U of M/DT on Wed. night again, so thought we do something a little different.
The plan is to meet around 2:30 - 3 PM on Abbott Ave behind Whole Foods off of Excelsior Blvd (by the Jiffy Lube - I think that's what it is).
Post if you are interested - Hope to see you there,

Dirk,
I just might ride with you all Sunday. All depends on if the rain holds off.
Make sure and bring a lock as I am sure we will be stopping at Bryant Lake Bowl. I think Bells is having a release party for this years Oberon. It is getting released early I think and thus I will be stopping at the Bowl to give it a try.
There are a number of other good stops around uptown, plus alot of places to play. Distances on the bike are also easy to achieve with the greenway and all the sidestreets around the lakes.
If we are going to be cruising, I might bring the Two Wheeled Beer-Mobile, If we are going to be actually riding and playing, I'll bring The 'Tude.
See you all there.
P.S. You might want to start a new post for this ride.

Shad,
I would say, having been on the Wed night ride, that you will want an actually Mountain Bike and not a Cruiser/old schooool Beer bike.
I am guessing we are going to be doing more riding than poking and drinking so yuo will want something that you can actually hammer on.
Gears are optional, as Uptown is very Singlespeed friendly.
I would suggest you bring the P2. Though I am not sure what the plan is for riding. Dirk? Mark?

James -
Mark is out of town for the weekend and doesn't think he will be back soon enough for the ride.
As for the type of ride.. Your guess is as good as mine, I usually do the off road riding (Cedar, Brownie, & Theo) - If anyone has a good idea of a loop to take on the bike path/city, that would be great. If something off road looks good - we could hit that quick - but mainly this will be a BT/AP ride.
Most of us have mnt bikes - so that is what we will be riding.
The Bells Oberon after - well, you always have to have refreshments after a ride don't you?? Bells is just a bonus!

New Info,
Buddy of mine was at bryant last night no no Oberon. But they do have the Bells Batch 6000 on tap and the Carmelite Tripple on Tap which almost make up for it.
Dirt is probably out for this ride. We'll just play it by ear and see what we can find to ride on. Should be plenty.

I'm in for Sunday, I'm up for more riding and playing than cruising and drinking although I would definitely be up for a tasty tap after the ride.
Today I have to figure out how to get from the garage to the pavement in my road shoes without killing myself so I can to for a spin on the skinny. Maybe I'll give the alley a couple of more days to melt.
