Will be up in Bemidji this summer for in-laws weekend. Bringing mtb with me. Found movil maze trail on net, but no reviews. Any review would be appreciated, also, knowledge of any other trails near Ruttger's Birchmont lodge. Thanks!
I'm not sure how the biking is in the summer because Movil Maze is primarily a ski trail system from what I know. I've never been there before but here is a map of the trails.

Thanks. I found those, too. Looks interesting and even a little bit challenging. I can see why it's called a maze!

I just moved down here from the Bemdiji area. Movil Maze is a great place. As far as hiting it on your bike... compared to the trails I've been on in the metro area it kind of sucks. If you want to see wildlife and just be out in the woods... its the place to go.
We used to use the maze as an off-road vehicle trail in the summer. Be aware that there could be drunken red-necks around the corner!

I've skied the Maze, but never biked. It is not technical singletrack, or even singletrack for that matter, but the hills would be a great workout.
About a half hour south of Bemidji, you could bike in the Paul Bunyan State Forest. The Martineau trail system is designed for off road motorcycles, but we ride there all the time. The Bunyan is true singletrack, but cannot be considered tight and twisty. The hills in the Bunyan can be killers as well.
Also in the Bunyan and running through the Chippewa National Forest is the North Country Trail. The NCT is designed for hiking, but cycling is allowed. New sections have been opened just north of my place and look very promising. The NCT is singletrack in the Bunyan, but widens in the Chippewa.
All the riding is very scenic up here, but not specific to Mountain Biking.
Don't worry too much about the drunken rednecks. Do watch out for motorized vehicles on the forest roads as the rednecks tend to pretend that they are all rally car racers.
