I was looking at my back issues of my moutain bike mags and I was looking at two seperate articles on the Whistler bike park out in B.C. Why can't Lutsen do something like that? The ski parks down here in the cities are too small to do anything like that but Lutsen could. I've only skiied there every year since I was 4, not to mtn. bike. But from knowing what the resort is like for skiing, I can't see why they don't do it like Whistler. I know people that go up there for DH but they say that's all they really have to offer. Somebody needs to talk to the right people to maybe get that started:laugh: I would love to take a trip out there once to see what the hype is all about, but if we could have it here within the state, I could use my own bikes instead of renting them. What do you all think?:etard:

I know some people involved in the building of the existing trails that they have up there and I guess Lutsen doesn't want to deal with the liability that might incur with stunts and bridges. I love riding DH and Lutsen is actually pretty good for that but it's almost too small for the bridges and such. It kind of makes sense. Think about all the numbnutts on their snowboards or skis trying to ride a bridge or jump something designed for a bike. They'd probably end up killing themselves.
My best bet is that as more and more bike parks emerge at the existing ski places, Lutsen will be forced to follow. That's just my thoughts though.

...traffic volume to finance the build out of stunts and related liability insurance hikes.
I know, build it and they will come. Doesn't matter from what I've seen of Lutsen mgmt/ownership. They're happy enough with what little money comes in from bikers as it is.
Besides, even if they were to build more Whistler-like trails they wouldn't have the lifts to service the demand...even if they were to run the Bull lift. For the record, I'm now 0 for 5 the last two seasons in terms of heading up for a Saturday of riding (most recently mid-Oct) only to find the Bull lift not running.
Total BS.
The lifts are slow as heck. I can't imagine how bad it would be with actual lift lines. Bikers will never generate enough cash flow to rationalize an upgrade to one or more high speed quads at Lutsen.

Don't worry I'm tryin' but not at lutsen, some where much much closer to the cities with good evelvation and natural terrain to work, stunts don't make the trail the terrain does, there is a place for everything...some places work in the favor of stunts and others don't the place I am looking at would be a good place for both, that would be spirit my the way. And as far as I know it is easier to get around regulations if you use the natural terrain instead of building structures.

...stunts don't make the trail the terrain does, there is a place for everything...
Really good example of this is Mtn Creek (Diablo), NJ... They have about 1000 ft of vertical, but some really good terrain as far as biking is concerned. Then, they mix in the stunts, jumps, etc in.
Buck - Let me know when you get the trail stuff figured out... Depending on when it is (ie after all the snow melts) I will be up for helping. I also work at a place that generates a decent amounts of scrap lumber, I may be able to get some from my boss if you're looking.
